Soft-close hinges: how to choose the right one for every door
Overlay, inset or half-overlay? A quick guide to choosing concealed hinges that open smoothly and close silently.

A hinge is the most-used moving part in a kitchen, yet it is often the last thing specified. Start with the door position: full-overlay doors cover the cabinet side, half-overlay doors share a centre panel, and inset doors sit flush inside the frame — each needs a different hinge arm.
Next, consider opening angle. Standard 110° hinges suit most doors; wide-angle hinges give full access to pull-out drawers behind a door, and corner or blind-corner hinges solve awkward junctions.
Finally, choose damping. Integrated soft-close hinges slow the door in its final few degrees so it closes quietly every time, with no separate buffer to fit. Three-way adjustment lets installers align gaps perfectly after the doors are hung.
